Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has triggered a wave of digital transformation across various sectors, including maritime transportation. This transformation demands a new generation of human resources (HR) that are not only technologically proficient but also adaptive and resilient in the face of change. This article explores the challenges and opportunities faced by maritime HR in the digital era, highlighting the shift from traditional port operations to digital platforms integrated with real-time data and automation technologies. Through case studies of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) and PT Salam Pacific Indonesia Lines (SPIL), the article illustrates how digital innovations such as Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), smart port systems, and e-commerce logistics platforms have redefined port efficiency and workforce competencies. The findings underscore the importance of digital leadership, continuous upskilling, foreign language proficiency, and data literacy as critical elements in preparing a future-ready maritime workforce.
